My cat steals food everywhere!! Bins, the counter tops, plates, the fridge, on the stove she even steals from my neighbors!! I feed her twice a day morning and evening and sometimes between, and a moderate portion too. she's gotten to a point where I've begun to dislike her for her stealing nature but not so much to get rid of her please help! I have two cats and the other one does not steal he eats a little from his bowl and she eats his food as well then he's hungry and has no food for himself if I hide his food she finds it! He's lost weight ... I really don't know what to do anymore... Frustrated almost to tears cuz she is his mother and I had her longer than i had him and now he's the love of my life and shes just the pestilence of my neighborhood!!

Hello, Really sorry to hear this.

Please note that its never to late to train a cat!

First - how is he getting it? Are you leaving food out on the counter? Is this a thing where you turn you back, and the food is gone? How is he stealing it?

The obvious answer is don't leave food out, but based on your question, I'm thinking he lies in wait and the grabs it when your not looking...

There are a few things that come to mind - first is set her up. Leave out some food in such a way that she will grab it - as soon as he touches the food, use an airhorn, lots of bells, pennies in a popcan thrown near her (not at her) - something that startles or scares her. If you can set it up so the cat doesn't know its you , thats even better because many animals learn they can't do something with a human present, but they can without. I've heard that setting up mousetraps upside down, with a sheet of paper on top will work too - cat sets off mousetraps (upside down of course) which make a scary noise and sound - your presence not necessary at all!. Do this a few more times and kitty will soon learn that stealing equals scary noise. Don't let your cat steal anything in between training - if your cat steals any food at all, it will be much more difficult to train her completely. Also, does your cat steal from anyplace? If you use the kitchen table for training, theres a good chance that the cat won't learn not to steal from the popcorn bowl in the living room. You should set her up in all sorts of different places.

Second : you can do is be super vigilant with any food you have - any time you see her going for it, block her. This will take awhile, and this behavior will get worst before its better, and again, you need to catch her every single time, or else she learns if she tries harder, she gets the food.

Third : thing is to simply keep her out of wherever you are eating - if you eat in the living room, lock her up in the bedroom. I suggest using this technique with the scary noise technique, and soon you will have a kitty who doesn't steal anymore.

Again training cats needs lots of time and effort but I believe it worth the try so please be patient. Hopefully at the end you will have a great cat.

Good luck.
