I took my maltese on a hike yesterday in 95 degree weather. Half way up, he started to hyperventilate and wouldn't walk. He fell to his side. I gave him a lot of water and carried him back down, brought him home, and bathed him. He was being very moody but I thought he was just exhausted and upset that I took him out. Now, I see that I could touch him anywhere but his lower back at one specific spot. I thought he would sleep it off but he still squeals when I touch him. Help! Does anyone know what may have happened? He is still drinking water, eating, and walking around. Thank you in advance!

When a dog has back pain, it is important to find out the source of that pain and then to treat it in order to prevent any further complications or damage, so I believe the best thing is to take your dog to a vet to make sure if everything is all right , to avoid any additional injuries please read this article :

And don't worry I am sure that your maltese will be ok

Good Luck
